This
is the Urk municipality website. It is available in Dutch
and English.
The
rest of these sites are not in English, but still offer
lots of interesting information and pictures of Urk.
GY193
- De Hoop
Pictures
of the Urk fishing vessel De Hoop - GY193, one of the ships
featured in the film. The hull number on most Urk vessels
starts with the letters UK for Urk. However, because of
quotas limiting the amount of fish that can be caught, many
ships find it more favorable to fish under a different flag.
In this case the GY stands for Grimsby in England.
Z198
- Kees Korf
Similarly, the Kees Korf - Z198 sails under the Belgian
flag. The Z stands for Zeebrugge. The ship is named for
Kees Korf, a young fisherman who was lost at sea in 1997.
